Coyle on Mahon Loan to Blackpool

Clarets midfielder Alan Mahon, as expected has completed his loan move to local Championship rivals Blackpool until the end of the season. News broke over the weekend about the potential move after Owen Coyle confirmed an approach had been made by Blackpool caretaker manager Tony Parkes.

Mahon has found it difficult to break into the side this season with the 30 year old making just 8 League substitute appearances.

Owen Coyle has had numerous options in midfield this season making competition for places even greater.

Alan Mahaon is also out of contract in the summer and this move is bound to fuel speculation that he could be making a permanent move away from Turf Moor in the close season.

Owen Coyle though had nothing but praise for Mahon and gave his reasons for the loan move as follows:

'Alan Mahon is a lad I have got so much time for and I hold him in very high esteem. He has been a terrific servant for me at this football club and I've no doubts he will do his best to keep Blackpool in the Championship. He has been limited to the amount of football he should be playing which is unfortunate because he is a quality player.I gave him my word that if something came up and he was able to go and play a bit, I would let him do that. We are well covered in the midfield area, so that is one reason we allowed Alan to go and we wish him every success.'

Mahon could make his debut for Blackpool against Southampton at the weekend.

"I just to want to play football, said Mahon

I know a couple of the lads and the manager, so it wasn't a hard decision,"

Good luck, Alan, although Blackpool are our local rivals and their fans do tend to give us the verbals on occasions, I hope he can help them stave off relegation so we can keep the local rivalry going, after all Bloomfield Road is an excuse to go to the seaside even though the ground is a disgrace.

would be amazed if he stayed in the summer to be honest - A big wage off the bill. I just feel we only ever saw the best of Mahon in brief glimpses

In Eastenders characters usually leave in the back of a taxi, with Burnley players it seems to be on loan at a location somewhere near you. I think OC's glowing praise was his Burnley epitaph. Shame really as I liked Mahon as a player and thought he had a lot of potential but he did tend to get injuryitis a lot. He will need to be replaced with a younger, fitter player next season.
