Worthy Paterson in Worthy's Northern Ireland Squad

The Clarets will have an International Break at the end of the March and by then they will need one. After a visit to Plymouth on the Saturday 21st March they will have played a total of 52 games this season.

One player who won't be given much of a rest though will be hot shot striker, Martin Paterson

Paterson has been named in the Northern Ireland squad for their World Cup Group 3 qualifiers against Poland and Slovenia at the end of the month.

Both these games will be played at Windsor Park with Poland the visitors on Saturday 28th March (Kick Off: 5:15pm) followed by Slovenia on April Fools Day! (Wednesday 1st April Kick Off: 7:45pm)

There is a strong chance that Paterson could feature too having started for his country in their recent qualifying win in San Marino.

Although this is excellent news, Clarets fans will no doubt be slightly concerned about his current level of fitness, having looked tired and subdued in recent games.

International games as well as running the risk of injury might be a bad thing for Paterson at the moment with the Clarets hoping to reach the play-offs. We certainly need a fully fit Pato firing on all cylinders in the run-up to the end of the season.

Good news for Pato though, you can only wish him well and hope he comes through it unscathed. Michael Duff though is again absent from Nigel Worthington's selection and he must now be wondering what he has to do to get back in the squad.

Thoroughly deserved for his goals and running defenders ragged this season. He does need a break though, I just wish these games were during the summer. Brilliant buy for us this season.

it will be a big boost for the lad to get called up for his country.
