Claretacchio Asks about the 'Owls of Anguish'

The Clarets face Sheffield Wednesday at home on Saturday and with the side underperforming in their last two games will there be 'Owls of Anguish' this week?

Claretacchio writes:

The Clarets are now looking tired and jaded with a number of players in the sixteen clearly in need of a rest. Yet with a small squad, seemingly no loans on the horizon and four players out on loan there doesn't appear to be an obvious answer.

In the season opener when Burnley travelled to Hillsborough we played an absolute shocker against the Owls with defensive lapses all over the place. In fact the whole team seemed all over the place and at that point I thought this was going to be a dreadful season. Who would have thought the season would be like it has been so far after that initial 4-1 drubbing back in August?

Now we have to play the Owls again in a game we simply have to win. However will the game at the Emirates on the 8th of March be far from the mind of the players? So how will the players put thoughts of that game out of their mind and summon up the energy to go hell for leather against Wednesday? Can Owen afford to rest the players who have performed heroics all season long and more to the point will he?

Critical decisions have to be made for the game. Paterson clearly looks exhausted, Blake. Duff and McCann are running on fumes as the tanks are empty. How Alexander has kept going I don't know but if there was an award for toughing it out he would surely win.

So will be there be ''Owls of Anguish' this week if Owen rests certain players, or will he be berated by the fans if he keeps the same team? Will there be more problems if 3 points aren't won? It would be ironic if it were Wednesday that again caused 'Owls of Anguish' to break out with the season looking like it may come to nothing. Would you make changes and rest key players for this match? What changes would you make?

Lots of questions but they are ones we are all asking at the moment, so what do you think? Tell us below this article or come and debate the article in our forums.

I think it's time to rest Pato certainly, giving Rodriguez a start up front with Thompson plus I would start McDonald and drop McCann to the bench. We should also bring back Bes and Remco and freshen up the team but that aint gonna happen!

Good article tacchio i have got to agree with Pato not sure McCann will get a rest he seems to be Coyles golden boy and who could dispute? But i think it's time to shake things up a bit bring in a few fresh faces obviously these lads have done the best for this season "cup wise" But let's face it if we don't get up this season i worry that's a big loss and don't think we will be anywhere near next's season?Have we gambled to get there no we didn't as i write this anyhow,The big picture is there for us and i can't understand why we can't go for it?Give Coyle some cash ffs sorry but it make's you mad, four people on loan whats that all about? But i reckon two off them could have done a job for us? Time to get real Burnley or be stuck where we are year after year or lower?I must say i am not getting at directors but come on you have to know the money for one season prem would set Burnley and its directors for years,Us fans well i speak for myself here! Look at this way promotion for one season even if we were crap that money would fund us for years and maybe get back up?Its not like it used to be for me its about playing good football for your team i thought that this has been lost but Burnley have proved the exception we just need that push??

This one is personal - As a Sheffielder, I want revenge for the opening day!

About time we got something against the Owls at Turf Moor they are always sneaking points off us and as you say Dale there is that little matter of that 4-1 opening day defeat to avenge.

I was surprised the article didn't encourage much response or debate. Perhaps todays repeat shocker of a performance against the Owls might cause people to think again and have 'Owls of Anguish.
