The Clarets face Sheffield Wednesday at home on Saturday and with the side underperforming in their last two games will there be 'Owls of Anguish' this week?
The Clarets are now looking tired and jaded with a number of players in the sixteen clearly in need of a rest. Yet with a small squad, seemingly no loans on the horizon and four players out on loan there doesn't appear to be an obvious answer.
In the season opener when Burnley travelled to Hillsborough we played an absolute shocker against the Owls with defensive lapses all over the place. In fact the whole team seemed all over the place and at that point I thought this was going to be a dreadful season. Who would have thought the season would be like it has been so far after that initial 4-1 drubbing back in August?
Now we have to play the Owls again in a game we simply have to win. However will the game at the Emirates on the 8th of March be far from the mind of the players? So how will the players put thoughts of that game out of their mind and summon up the energy to go hell for leather against Wednesday? Can Owen afford to rest the players who have performed heroics all season long and more to the point will he?
Critical decisions have to be made for the game. Paterson clearly looks exhausted, Blake. Duff and McCann are running on fumes as the tanks are empty. How Alexander has kept going I don't know but if there was an award for toughing it out he would surely win.
So will be there be ''Owls of Anguish' this week if Owen rests certain players, or will he be berated by the fans if he keeps the same team? Will there be more problems if 3 points aren't won? It would be ironic if it were Wednesday that again caused 'Owls of Anguish' to break out with the season looking like it may come to nothing. Would you make changes and rest key players for this match? What changes would you make?
Lots of questions but they are ones we are all asking at the moment, so what do you think? Tell us below this article or come and debate the article in our forums.
Many thanks to Claretacchio for providing the article.
