Rumour Mill-OblO'Dea,Obli Dah

Darren O'Dea the Celtic centre back has again been linked with a loan move to Turf Moor.

Earlier this month the Irish media in particular were suggesting Burnley were close to signing O'Dea on a season long loan but nothing came of it.

The Sunday People this morning again suggests the Clarets are close to signing the centre half and also states we are still in the hunt for Middlesbrough right-back Tony McMahon.

The centre back has struggled to start in his preferred position for Celtic and has been forced to play at left back due to the form of Stephen McManus and Steven Caldwell's brotherm Gary.

Gordon Strachan though is looking for his fourth consecutive SPL title and is reported to be keen to keep his squad together

O'Dea (pronounced O'Dee) is a 21 year old, Dublin born, Republic of Ireland U-21 International and has been called up to the full International squad but has yet to make his debut.

The defender joined Celtic, his only professional club to date in 2005 and made his Celtic debut in the CIS Cup against St Mirren in September 2006.

He impressed so much during the 2006/7 season, he was given a 3 year contract, with the option of a further year in March 2007.

The Clarets definitely need to bolster their defence and provide additional cover. Too many times this season, injuries and suspensions in the back four have limited Owen Coyle's choice. Carlisle, Caldwell and Duff have racked up numerous yellow and red cards and injuries to Kalvenes (leg) and Anderson(cruciate ligament)have led to defensive selection headaches for the gaffer. A centre back who can play left back would seem an ideal candidate.

If we don't sign him...OblO'Dea,Obli Dah, Life Goes On!

Thanks for the heads up,Danny. Is Strachan likely to let him go out on loan do you think?
turfmanphil
if strachan gets someone else in for the defence then i can see it happening but he's not mr successful in the transfer market so i'd say the chances are not huge
