Rumour Mill-No Go McMahon says Southgate

Middlesbrough defender Tony McMahon has decided to stay at the club, rejecting an offer from Burnley according to media sources today.

Gareth Southgate is reported as saying:

'Tony feels he wants to be here and rightly so, he wants to be here and fight for his place at a Premier League club, and he is playing very well for us, so that is pretty much dead,'

It was only yesterday that the same media sources, including the Daily Mirror reported that Owen Coyle was still after the defender, hoping to bring the player to Burnley in time for the local derby against Preston at Deepdale tomorrow.

Whether the link to Burnley was in fact true or not in the first place now seems irrelevant since the 22 year old defender appears to be settled at Middlesbrough after very recently getting back into the first team.

Looks like Owen Coyle will have to look elsewhere for that elusive defender we so desperately need

If this rumour was true in the first place, and it does seem to have some legs, then at least on a positive note it is good that Coyle has some money it seems to bring in players (not just loans). Frustrating we cant seem to get anybody at the moment though

Difficult times! You would think some of the prem fringe players would jump at the chance to get some regular football? Its not as if we are in a relegation fight?

Aye, I am sure OC is trying his hardest but I think it will be a result if we are not forced to sell a key player! New face(s)=Bonus(s) in my opinion bearing in mind credit crunch/financial plight blah blah
