Rumour Mill-Eagles Flight to Boro?
The problem with Eagles playing so well,most recenly in front of the cameras at White Hart Lane this week, is the attention it gets from unwanted poachers.It is of course inevitable that with Chris Eagles catching the eye of the big boys, the rumours would continue to fly again during the transfer window.
The latest comes from the Daily Mirror, who today have reported that Middlesborough could be the latest Premier League side to consider putting in a bid for the player.
The rumour earlier in the season was that it was West Brom, currently propping up the Premier League who could be interested in bringing our star player to the Hawthorns this month and that has not been ruled out in the Mirror article which goes on to state that Middlesbrough will face competition not just from West Brom but also Hull City.
Owen Coyle and the board will simply have to hope that any club in this transfer madness of a month do not offer any silly money we 'simply cant refuse' or that Eagles and his agent don't start doing an 'Andy Gray' forcing the club into a corner.
For heaven's sake Burnley just for once do not sell and use the excuse 'It's a Good Bit of Business'. How many fans would be totally cheesed off to once more see our side plummet down the table and once more finish midtable when this season is our best chance of promotion in ages? What effect would that have on gates and the fans faith in the club's ambition?
The problem also is that with selling any key player in this farcical scramble in January, we have to be careful with timing.
If a deal is done too late in the month, we would have little time to bring anybody else in and by then only the dregs could be left anyway and we would be forced to consider loans again.

i hope he is right too, this is arguebly the best squad we have had in years with a few more additions who knows the promised land beckons

hull are close to a £2 million deal for luis boa morte so that may rule them out

Boro have Adam Johnson - a very nice young prospect who also happens to be a left winger... I've also seen them linked to McGeady of Celtic - so hopefully they dont make an offer for Eagles.

I think Eagles will still be a claret come the end of the month ( I hope so anyway). But if he isnt it would not have been a complete waste of time on the basis of all the goodwork he has put in and the fact that we will probably have doubled our money at least!

Maybe - but who knows. If we sell for 2.5m+ we can maybe bank 1m for debts and spend 1m on a new player. Like the article says though - depends on what day he was sold.
But, I hope he isnt sold! :-)

Naw,fed up with all this bollox, if we want to get into Nirvana land we cant keep doing this in the windows? Banking money goes into a black hole and sustains the mentality Good business/Half-a-season Clarets/midtable mediocrity finish! Really is time for a change

I do agree to a certain extent. But the club losing money is something that has to be taken seriously. I would prefer to have a club being relatively succesful in the championship rather than one that dies trying to reach the premiership.
Bradford, Swindon, Leeds, Leicester and probably Charlton have all suffered quite badly after falling from the premiership - I dont want that to be us!
I just think that Mr Kilby and the board want us to get to the premiership as much as we do and if it is possible to support the manager they will. They know the books better than we do and we have to trust them.
We turned down a big bid for Little in 2002, and when it didnt work out we nearly ended up in a real mess from which it has taken a number years to recover.
I want to keep Eagles and I want to have a sustained push for the premiership. Hopefully we will be able to hold on to him this month but I would expect him to move on if we do not go up in May.
We have to trust the board - Without them where would we be!

We don't have to buy(although one defender would help,loan maybe),simply dont sell unless the player/agent forces us into a corner. I think the Little/pre-Digital affair has maybe prevented the Board from taking that extra calculated risk at times and they have been maybe over-cautious on occasion. It would be a crying shame with promotion in sight this season and all that means re increased revenue/parachute payments, if we scuppered our chances by selling the likes of Eagles especially if the deal was done too late in the window to bring any decent replacements in.I have trusted the board and they have worked miracles since Flood arrived but if it's true that they have ambitions to reach the top-flight there will come a time in a Jan window in my opinion when they will have to take that calculated risk

I do agree Phil and the effect it could have on the fans morale to see our leading light sold once again in the January window would be massive.
Reading the sunday paper today - It seemed to suggest that Boro were interested in a cash plus players deal to the value of £5m - That would take some turning down!
