I never really recall seeing Jimmy Mac play in his heyday for the Clarets ,that era was a little bit before my time and it is the story of my life that I have little recollection of both our greatest ever player and our greatest ever era. I was just six in 1960 when the Clarets won the League Division One title and my era was really the mid 60s to late 70s.

I do however remember seeing Jimmy play just the once in a John Angus testimonial in the 70s and even then in his later years, I well remember Jimmy getting the better of a number of youth players half his age and bamboozling them with his tackling and football skills.

My late father though used to wax lyrical about the great Jimmy Mac and he was gutted when we sold him to Stoke as of course were many Clarets fans at the time. I am not sure he ever really got over the shock but he stuck with it, unlike many who refused to ever go to Turf Moor again such was the high regard our fans had for Jimmy at the time.

So this is really on behalf of my late father, when I say very well done Jimmy and thanks for making so many Clarets fans in those far off days so proud and providing them with so much joy and entertainment.
