Rumour Mill-Ade Akinbyebye?

Rumour Mill-Ade Akinbyebye?

Ade Akinbiyi rumoured to be on a relatively high salary at Burnley could be released by Owen Coyle. The striker since returning for his second spell at the club has spent most of the time on the bench struggling recently to even get a place in the sixteen.

According to the Daily Mirror, Burnley boss Owen Coyle wants to offload Akinbiyi along with keeper Gabor Kiraly as he tries to raise cash for loan signings.

Coyle has previously extolled the virtues of Ade as a true professional and he seemed to still feature in his plans

Akinbiyi, though now 34 along with Kiraly are in the last year of their contracts and it is difficult to see either of them being offered new contracts in the Summer.

Akinbiyi himself also indicated this could be his final year at this level.

It will be a shame to see him go if he does leave and most Burnley fans will remember his first time with the Clarets as his best spell with the club. In his first period with the club he scored 16 goals in 39 appearances and became a firm favourite.

Many were shell-shocked when we sold him to Sheffield United for £600,000 in February 2005 and the loss seemed to have a profound effect on the morale of the team and manager as we began to slide down the table in the second half of the season.

Clarets fans hearts (or at least the majority) were lifted though when Steve Cotterill brought the player back to Turf Moor in January 2007 for a fee of £650,000 with a further £100,000 to be paid in the summer of 2007.

His second spell to be honest has not been as successful although he did go through a period of being supersub during the last few months of Steve Cotterill's reign.

He has made 65 further appearances for the club to date but only scored 10 goals.

The last time he played for the Clarets was against Blackpool at Turf Moor this season coming on from the bench in the 2-0 victory.

He unfortunately injured his back before the next game against Swansea and has not made the sixteen since with Coyle preferring Jay Rodriguez.

The much travelled journeyman has so far played for eleven clubs during his career and whatever lies in store for Ade we wish him well.

Mixed feelings about this, I suppose sometimes you just have to let go, but he has been a great servant to the club both on and off the pitch

Excellent in his first spell and the player i have been most disapointed to see leave ever. More so than Blake, Chappy, Little or anyone. Not to so good second time around - Probably time to leave!

I personally would keep him on the books if anything happened injurywise he could still do a good job & score for us.

I suppose with the credit crunch biting hard they are looking to release money to bring in loans. Ade is unlikely to stay after this season when his contract is up so maybe they want to cash in a bit now if they can. Still would be sad to see him go though
