Coyle on Signing Anderson

Russell Anderson, the Sunderland central defender as signed a season-long loan deal with the Clarets and tonight is named on the bench as Burnley face Oldham in the 2nd Round of the Carling Cup at Turf Moor

Anderson joins the Clarets on an emergency loan basis which allows him to be selected for tonight's match even though he only travelled to Turf Moor and agreed terms today.

The Black Cats are set to bolster their defence with the signing of Anton Ferdinand thus limiting the opportunities for Anderson.

Coyle told the club's official website:

'He is a player I have full admiration for.

'I remember him at Aberdeen, where he was held in such high esteem that Sunderland paid £1million for his services.

'There is no doubting the quality that he has. We have seen him at close quarters and he will be a tremendous acquisition for us.'

Well the Clarets certainly need some pace and options in the back four, let's hope at 29, Anderson will bolster that area!

Welcome aboard Russell!

After a hectic journey today to finalise terms at Turf Moor, it will be interesting to see if Coyle gives Anderson a go from the bench. If the game is won with 15-20 minutes to go, we could see him come on
