Coyle on Latest Transfer News & Strategy

The Clarets have been linked to a number of potential transfer targets in recent weeks.

The targets have most notably been defenders following a disasterous start to the 2008/9 campaign in which we have leaked seven goals in two games and scored just once!

Owen Coyle speaking to the Burnley Express has clarified the transfer situation and he appears to be looking mainly at loans that could be potential permanent signings:

'I've chased a few things up in terms of loans, and been thwarted in one or two areas, but we'll continue and do our best to get somebody in.

'If you go into the Premier League, in terms of salaries there's only so much you can pay, and players have to want to come out of the Premier League to play in the Championship.

'It's not as simple as picking the phone up and saying 'I want him' and it happens.

'Finance will probably play the biggest part of it.

'We would be looking for a loan with a view to buy, and we have to ensure if it came to buying, we have the right funding in place to do that.'

If any full signings rather than loans become an option, Coyle has until 12 midnight on September 1st to make any signings before the Summer Transfer Window closes. This is one more extra day than usual due to August 31st falling on a Sunday.

Wonder if he is just looking at loans now? The way the above is worded it sounds like loans rather than permanent signings have been thwarted but we know he enquired about Leacock so gawd only knows

He probably wants both. Assume he has already tried some loan players, but they only become priority in September. If we can buy someone on a good deal, then go for the buy first.

I just hope we are not getting too frustrated again by the lack of signings. I am not holding my breath we will get anybody in by midnight September 1 and if not we will have to hope the loan system comes to our rescue. One thing is clear, we cant go too much into 2008/9 without bolstering defence and to my mind our attack

Burnley Express Latest 26/08/08: Coyle has been linked with a number of centre backs, as well as targetmen, and he hinted that one potential arrival could be from the Premier League: "I'm anticipating doing something this week. "We've been in talks with one or two regarding a loan, and we're getting a little bit closer. "It's not 100%, but we're certainly moving in the right direction. "Any signing won't necessarily be a loan, but the one I'm taking about would be, so that tells you he's coming from a club where we probably couldn't afford to pay the fee, or they're not prepared to let him go long term. "Hopefully that will come to fruition, but we're certainly trying to move that on."
