Whilst we waited for the fire brigade to get that numpty Red Devil off the Cricket Field Stand on Saturday I thought I would read my free copy of the new Claret & You Official Matchday Magazine(Didn't they used to call them programmes?).
A very interesting read although I hope they realise that the new square shape no longer fits in the old official binders.
Anyway, in Barry Kilby's article 'Investing in Youth Is Our Way Forward' our chairman gave a brief update on the US situation.
'Opening up that country (USA) is a real priority, he reiterated
'We will be going out there again later this year to see what further progress we can make in a targeted area'
One of the pitfalls of attracting US youth to the UK is the need for them to finish their education Kilby explained:
'This is a big factor in why Americans dont come over here, because their mentality is that they want to finish college education,
'I am trying to look at ways of developing a Burnley scholarship over here that would allow American kids to continue their education here,
'That is just one way we are thinking on our feet to try and help take the club forward. I can assure you, it's just one of many'
The Clarets completed a US Tour in July playing two clubs identified as potential partners following an earlier US visit by Barry Kilby, Brendan Flood, Paul Fletcher and Sandy Stewart in June. Carolina Railhawks and Minnesota Thunder are probably the two main clubs of interest to Burnley FC at the moment but it looks like nothing definite will be resolved until at least later in the year and even then we could be someway off signing a deal.
