No Go for Cotterill
Former Clarets gaffer Steve Cotterill should have been moving to the USA after securing a seven-week stint as boss of Minnesota Thunder.
He was to be given the temporary role of technical director and head coach of the side that play in the USL, America's second tier of football.
'They want me to appraise the playing staff and youth set-up and get the team moving again.' said Cotterill a few days ago.
However, bad luck seems to be following our former gaffer around. He has not had any work since leaving the Clarets by mutual consent back in November 2007.
This time US red-tape and problems sorting out the necessary paper work for his work permit have scuppered his plans.
Cotterill said after the disappointment:
'I would need a work permit to do the job, and even though it was only for seven weeks - which would have been great - it will take too much time to sort out.
'It takes two weeks, by which time there would only be six games left of the season, so I decided it wasn't worth going over for that.
'It would have been ideal, because by the time their season ends in September, there would possibly be some vacancies coming round in this country.
'The people over there I spoke to were very nice, but it wasn't to be, and it was probably best for both parties that we look for something else.'
There was some speculation that Burnley FC may have put in a good word for their former gaffer considering their close links with Minnesota Thunder. They played the team on their recent pre-season US Tour and have held discussions with them about a possible partnership.
Oh well, Cotterill will now have to continue searching for a job in the UK.
Unsworth looks to be Joining Huddersfield
David Unsworth turned down a potential contract with Burnley in the close season despite being offered a player-coach role with the club. Owen Coyle had told our former defender that he didnt think he would get much opportunity to play in the new season so Unsworth decided to chance his luck elsewhere.
The news is that he has now agreed a deal to join Huddersfield Town, subject to a medical.
The 34-year-old impressed former Clarets gaffer, Stan Ternent during a trial with the Terriers.
The Huddersfield manager told the club website: 'We have agreed a deal with David.'
Unsworth will undergo his medical this Monday but is available to play against Stockport in today's season openner at the Galpharm Stadium after signing initial non-contract terms.
Chris McCann Now Too Old for Republic of Ireland U 21
Chris McCann recently celebrated his 21st Birthday but is technically still eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland Under 21 team.
However, he has not been selected by the gaffer,Don Givens for their next match and now looks unlikely to feature in future games
'We are still entitled to play the group of players born in 1986 but we have decided to go with the younger group as part of the build-up to the next campaign. A lot of these players have been involved before, so I expect it should be a smooth transition.'
The next European Championships qualifying campaign begins in September next year.
Chris will now instead be hoping to catch the eye of Giovanni Trapattoni and securing his first full cap for the Republic of Ireland.

The company logo will feature on the player's shorts of both our home and away kits during 2008-9 starting with today's season openner against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Sad News regarding Whoooooshy
Our former player and captain, Ray Deakin is fighting a battle against brain cancer it was revealed this week.
Ray, known as Whoooooshy to his fans is currently recovering from an operation and now faces a course of radiotherapy.
Deakin, now 49 was signed by Martin Buchan during the Summer of 1985 and spent six years with the Clarets.
In May 1987, the Clarets played probably the most important game of their history in order to secure their survival in the Football League. The captain for that match now known forever as 'The Orient Game' was Ray Deakin of course and he led the lads to a 2-1 victory on one of our most momentous days in living memory.
Deakin also led the team at Wembley in the Sherpa Van Trophy Final.
'They were fantastic days and when we came back from Wembley it was fantastic, the fans were amazing and I always thought they were crazy, in a good way. I loved my days at Burnley. said Deakin
'I'm staying very positive and they are not going to get rid of me that easily.'
All at Vital Burnley wish Ray & his family well in these difficult times .
