Robbo's View: Turnstile Fiasco

Robbo's View: Turnstile Fiasco

SERIES of errors on the turnstiles this afternoon (Saturday) as the Clarets entertained SPL side Inverness Caledonian Thistle, could cost the club dear.

Pre-Match I found myself chatting to Turfmanphil and Barnsey in the Sparrow Hawk, with one of the topics of discussion being; how can the Clarets draw more fans into Turf Moor?

Interesting. But on today's disgraceful showing they couldn't really have got much more wrong than they actually did and what a joke the pay on the gate turnstiles were!

As I am sure you are aware, there are four turnstiles at the top of of the Bob Lord stand closest to the ticket office. Two were for people with tickets (which hardly anybody was using, so they were going to waste) and a mere one was for pay on the gate (which had around a hundred fans queueing just to get through that one turnstile) plus the one next to it was closed!

Then as we get to the front (there was still about 70 behind us at this one turnstile)we are told they've run out of tickets on the turnstile and by this point we have already missed the first five minutes of the game.

We go to the James Hargreaves Stand which is exactly the same story, so upon seeing the queues which stretched back to the entrance of the Leisure Centre, we ran to the ticket office, by now 15 minutes into the game, queue up get the tickets and run back around. We then pass about 350 fans stood outside waiting for the pay on the gate turnstiles, when the ticket entries were empty so straight through we went and to our seats.

20 minutes missed, £8 spent, no wonder no one wants to come to Turf Moor Burnley. Maybe they could sort this out before trying to attract fans in with fancy promotions. If this was my first time at Turf Moor I certainly wouldn't be visiting again.

It is simple really, the club have missed out on a lot of money today, I dont know how many people I heard walking away from the Turf saying how disgraceful this was and that they were heading back to the pub.

Burnley Football Club then issued the following statement:

Burnley Football Club would like to sincerely apologise to all supporters who missed the kick off to the pre-season friendly v Inverness Caledonian Thistle because of queuing issues.

The club was caught unawares by the high volume of cash-paying customers.

Insufficient staff and cash floats were therefore in place to cope with the surge of supporters seeking admission to Turf Moor approaching kick off time.

The club accepts full responsibility for these shortcomings and an internal review of procedures will take place immediately to avoid any repeat scenario once the Championship season begins.

Final Thoughts...

I will finish my rant with the P.A. system, which was replaced in the summer for a clearer, louder system which would benefit the fans. That was also a massive let down.

Considering only 4,406 were at Turf Moor today, and you couldn't hear the muffled P.A. system, doesn't spell good things for when the season begins and we are getting 15,000 maybe plus on.

Edited out the html code quote stuff PC, it dont take it on comments. Luckily Barnsey managed to get some tickets for three of us after we sent him off as the advance guard (lol) although we were stood in the Bob Lord cash queues like plonkers till we realised there was a ticket only turnstile and sailed in with about 5 minutes before kick-off! Didn't realise it was that bad, but obviously it was
