'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Its Glentoran 0 Clarets 5!

We have a new striker, step forward Owen Coyle!

The Clarets defeat Glentoran 5-0 at the Oval in East Belfast on a special night celebrating the close connections between the two clubs and also with both clubs formed in 1882, our joint 125th Anniversary celebrations.

Goals by Jay Rodriguez after 32 minutes, Ade Akinbiyi in the 63rd minute,Martin Paterson after 78 minutes, an Alexander penalty on 86 minutes and in the final minute, Owen Coyle ensured the Clarets gave the Irish side a drubbing

In a strange Clarets line up and sixteen with Owen Coyle naming himself on the bench whilst also giving a trial to another Latvian,Alex Solovjovs, it was bound to be an interesting night!

The starting line-up and subs were as follows for the Clarets:

Jensen, Jordan, Caldwell, Carlisle, Duff, Mahon, Gudjonsson, Jones, Solovjovs, Akinbiyi, Rodriguez.

Subs: Penny, Alexander, Blake, Paterson, Berisha, Coyle

Stewth, now I can relax after a busy night, five goals and the almost certainty in the news that the Eagles has landed!

Apparently Solovjovs (copy and pasted ;) set up the first goal of the night, but was substituted before an hour was played. Had Coyle seen he was up to it or not????

According to Coyle:"He was due to join up with us last week but he'd been unwell," "He had a really bad chest infection, and that was the reason for him playing 55-60 minutes last night. "He acquitted himself well and put a great ball in for the first goal. "He's not fully fit as yet, so we'll try him again at Bradford tomorrow night and take it on from there. "I thought he did some nice touches last night on what was a fiery pitch. "We travel back today, he'll train with us tomorrow morning before the game at night and we'll assess it after that."
