Young MacDonald-The Scottish Connection

Coyle has been full of praise for his new young gun, 18 year old, Alex MacDonald. This is MacDonald's first full season as a professional player with the club having come through the Clarets youth system and making his first team debut towards the end of last season.

He has also impressed during the pre-season friendlies. A mazy run of his led to a goal attempt being picked up by Jay Rodriguez to score against Minnesota Thunder in our recent victory against them during our US tour. Alex went even one better in last night's friendly against St Johnstone scoring his first senior goal for the club in the 87th minute to secure a 3-1 victory.

Alex MacDonald, certainly sounds a proper Scottish name but he was born in Warrington! However his father is Scottish making the lad eligible to play for Scotland.

Owen Coyle, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph has now also revealed his young player, could have the chance to represent Scotland Under 19s.

"His father`s Scottish and he`s still eligible for the Under 19s," Coyle explained

"He`s been doing very well and I made Billy Stark aware of him last year and they've been following his progress."

Let's hope therefore we soon have another International on our books as the Clarets look more and more like they might have to all learn to play the bagpipes, drink whisky and chuck away their underwear!!
