Scottish Tour-Queen of the South 1:1 FINAL SCORE

After the gruelling schedule of the US tour in the heat and humidity of Carolina and Minnesota, the Clarets are now back on British soil and ready to face the rigours of a milder climate in Bonnie Scotland!

The Scottish tour will see the Clarets play three friendlies in five days with the first today against Queen of the South (3pm kick off)

The other two matches are as follows:

Monday July 21th: Partick Thistle A (kick-off 7-30 p.m.)

Wednesday July 23rd: St. Johnstone A (kick-off 7-30 p.m.)

The Scottish connection with the Clarets at the moment is pretty obvious with both our gaffer, Owen Coyle and Assistant manager, Sandy Stewart, Scots born & bred. They have both vast experience of the Scottish football scene and have managerial experience north of the border. It is no surprise therefore, that Coyle would use his Scottish contacts to arrange such a tour. However the Scottish connection goes down further now into the team. Steven Caldwell, our captain is of course Scottish and Graham Alexander, despite being born in Coventry is also a Scottish International.

Owen Coyle though has recently added to the Scottish flavour in the team by bringing in Scottish Under 21 International,Kevin McDonald from Dundee and also of course, Norwegian left back, Christian Kalvenes who has experience of the Scottish football scene having played for Dundee United.

However back to today's game this afternoon.

So what do we know about Queen of the South?

Queen of the South, formed in 1919 are based in the town of Dumfries in South West Scotland. They play in the First Division of the Scottish Football League. The club reached the Scottish Cup Final last season before losing to Rangers 3-2. However they do now have a UEFA Cup qualification for their efforts.

Palmerston Park is the home of Queen of the South, a stadium still with terracing but alas only for the home fans. The ground holds about 6400 supporters.

You can find out more information about the club by going to their official website:

Queen of the South Official Website

Queen of the South have had two pre-season friendlies so far. They won 5-0 against SFL neighbours Annan Athletic last Saturday and followed that up with a 3-0 victory away at Ayr United last Tuesday.

Gordon Chisholm, is the gaffer for the Doonhamers and he had this to say about the fixture coming up

"I`m quite happy with the way we`ve started, scoring eight goals in two games and not conceding, although we are expecting a tough game against Burnley

"They finished in the top half of the Championship last season, so they are a very good side and it will be a good test for us to see where we are at.

"Training has been going well and the lads came back in good condition, so we are looking forward to playing Burnley in what should be a good game."

The Clarets are taking a full squad to Scotland and they will now be able to add Diego Penny to their selection options. The Peruvian keeper arrived yesterday from Lima and is meeting up with his team-mates today.

Two players apart from Penny, missed out on the Clarets last friendly match against Minnesota Thunder in the US last week.

Berisha and new signing, Van der Schaaf both sat out that game having picked up injuries in training. Hopefully these are not serious and both will be available for selection today.

Coyle had this to say about the Scottish tour:

'It's a trip we are looking forward to and it will be nice to see some familiar faces again,

'The work doesn't stop, but we knew when we set out it was going to be difficult. The boys have worked ever so hard and that's been pleasing, we are looking stronger in terms of fitness. The aim is to get the lads ready for August 9th and that's what we want to continue to do.'
