Burnley X-Files: Harley the Hornet

Burnley X-Files: Harley the Hornet

Left back, Jon Harley was offered a new contract at the end of last season by Owen Coyle but he could't agree terms and so left the club becoming a free agent and available on a Bosman.

Speculation that he could be joining Leeds United did not materialise and yesterday it was confirmed that he had signed for Watford in a two-year deal.

Harley had been training with the Hornets during their pre-season Austrian tour and Watford gaffer,Adrian Boothroyd was obviously impressed enough to take on board the 28-year old, former Chelsea, Fulham and Sheffield United defender.

This is the first signing, Watford have made to date during the close season and could mean Harley wil now be facing his former team mates in the season ahead.

So then only Garreth O'Connor and David Unsworth to sort out a new club of those released/unable to agree contracts.

Watford co-ed here...what are your thoughts on Harley as a player? I've been impressed whenever he visits the 'Vic but overall, how is he?

He had a much improved season last season, attacking left back he can also play left midfield. Needs support in defence from left midfield/left winger dropping back sometimes, if not can look exposed. Former Clarets Player of the Year a few seasons back. I was sorry to see him go [Edited by turfmanphil]
