'If It's Football, It's Vital'

US Trialists Galore for Burnley-Coyle Explains

It has been reported on the Official Site that Owen Coyle yesterday evaluated several more American trailists on the training field of the WakeMed Soccer Park facility in Cary, North Carolina.

Owen Coyle confirmed the situation:

'We've taken the opportunity to look at a few lads while we've been over here and they have acquitted themselves terrifically

'It's still far too early to say if anything will happen, so we will just wait and see what develops.'

One trialist we do know about was the Number 22 photographed training with the lads ahead of the game against Cary Railhawks Under 23.

Speculation grew that this could have been, Carolina Railhawks striker,Martin Nunez.

However this has been firmly dismissed by Jarrett Campbell, the founder of the Carolina RailHawks Independent Supporters Club, now a regular visitor to Vital Burnley's Matchday Mayhem US forum.

Vital Burnley do now know who we believe this player to be but we are respecting Owen Coyle's wishes not to reveal his name at this stage.

Jarrett informed Vital Burnley as follows:

" I got a good look at your Mystery Man last night and he is not Martin Nunez. I'm 99% sure I know his identity but based on the comments made by OC here and some discussions with your PR guys, I'm going to refrain from revealing his name to honor their wishes to not fanning the flames on any rumors. I will tell you that he is a young university student with several more years of college ahead of him. He is a good local player but not what I would call an obvious star from the local system. I suspect he is connected by who he knows, rather than being a spectacular player, and I'm betting this trial is more one of convenience as you guys have some injuries and a few players yet to arrive, and you need a full squad in training to get a full 11 v. 11 workout. Maybe OC will monitor the kid a few more years but I doubt very seriously this little trial will lead to a short term offer"

If the trialist is still with the lads, he will now presumably have a new number on his shirt following the late arrival of our actual Number 22 in the squad, Besart Berisha.

Pretty exciting stuff, I wonder if we will see any of the trialists sign. It's some time since we signed a trialist no matter what country they hailed from.

Problems with visa's though. If we signed any, they would probably need to be loaned out in Europe for a while before being able to play for us. It is good news though. If we can find one good player from all of this, then we would be happy. I believe they are announcing which club we are partnering after the Thunder game.

Sounds like a minefield keeping things stum too if DB's comments on Offical Site are owt to go by: Trialists come and trialists go, but the youngsters who have joined the Clarets in the training camp this week have really been a credit to the game in the US.But a word of caution. It's understandable for fans to get excited when new faces arrive in the camp, but unfortunately the reason manager Owen Coyle chooses not to name them is twofold; firstly to avoid them popping on the radar for other clubs and, more importantly, to safeguard the student's college eligibility. The rules governing this sort of thing out here are, I'm told, are a minefield, so although curiosity is natural and we are happy to let you know of their involvement it's important for everyone's sake that we maintain anonymity on this front.
