'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rumour Mill-Where Eagles Dare?

Owen Coyle recenly said just before signing Van der Schaaf that he was after another player:

'The other one is a bit more complicated, in that there is another club interested in him, but he has real quality.

'We had a terrific meeting with him and his representative, obviously with permission from his club, because there would be a big fee involved in that.

'So we'll wait and see on that one, but we are certainly trying to bring the right players to the football club, and if we are able to sign both, it would be fantastic news for the football club.'

Speculation has been brewing all day, that the player we could have in mind is winger Chris Eagles from Manchester United. Now the Burnley Express have confirmed their belief that Eagles is our target.

22-year-old Eagles was born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire and is generally an attacking right-sided winger but he can also play on the left wing.

Eagles came through the youth system at Watford. He then left to join the Manchester United academy at the tender age of 14!

He made his first team debut for the Red Devils in October 2003 coming on as a substitute at Leeds in the League Cup.

He returned to Watford on loan in January 2005.

Sheffield Wednesday then also signed the player on loan for the first half of the 2005-06 season.

Eagles returned to Vicarage Road yet again on loan in January 2006, before agreeing to a spell with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in August 2006.

Chris Eagles has since struggled to break into the first team squad at Manchester United and could now be set to join the Clarets.

The fee is believed to add up to just over 1.5m in total and would break the previous record transfer deal for Burnley recently set for Martin Paterson.

Amazing if this is true and it comes off! Can play left or right wing!! Wahey!!
turfmanphil
I think he would be used as a central attacking midfielder and we will play with a diamond formation in the middle. That's if this rumour is true and happens of course, Would also give us options to change tactics or rotate people from one position to another. Eagles or Riordan would give us lots of options, so I would be very happy with this.

Well Coyle did say he wanted ,three in, one down, one possible so who is third? Driver out of frame IMO if Eagles in..has to be Riordan, that really still would be icing on cake IMO

Manchester United will allow Chris Eagles to leave Old Trafford as Burnley boss Owen Coyle wants to sign the midfielder in a 1m-plus deal. (Daily Mirror-9th July 08)

I hope the third is a defender to be honest. If we get Eagles we will have plenty of attacking options unless we get a defender or two in on loan.
smitrit
Yep, agree we do need another defender. Think Coyle said as much. Gorkss is still an outside possibility I reckon
turfmanphil
Does he have pace? We need some pace at the back although Kalvenes is not short of pace according to some North of the border.
smitrit
I think he can be pretty pacey and he does have an habit of scoring goals as we know to our cost..couple here from him against Derby..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE-ox-qBTis and he has also scored for his national side
