Burnley X-Files: It's Forest for Cole!

Former Clarets loan striker Andrew Cole will be playing for Nottingham Forest next season after the club confirmed he will be signing a one-year deal.

The 36-year-old is due to finalise the move when Forest gaffer, Colin Calderwood returns from a University of Bath club training camp this Monday. Andrew Cole will thus be returning to the city in which he was born.

Cole left Sunderland at the end of the 2007-08 season following a loan spell with Burnley becoming a free agent and therefore available on a Bosman free transfer.

Clarets fans had hoped he might have signed a one year deal for Burnley but he turned the offer down. Clearly the offer must have been down to the financial side since Cole often made noises that he might retire at the end of the 2007-8 season.

The player had been linked to several clubs before Forest looked favourites to sign him. The clubs included Southend,Leeds and Norwich.

Earlier reports in the media suggested Forest may have offered Cole a staggering £25,000/week to play for them, which for someone in the final stages of his footballing career seems ridiculously high and if true answers why the Clarets were unable to secure his services on a reasonable salary.

Cole could now return to Turf Moor next season to play against the Clarets for newly promoted Nottingham Forest. It will be interesting to see what sort of reception he gets from the Clarets fans.

Just cant believe he will be on £25,000/week. That's obscene if true, must be an error surely?

Was you hoping to get him back again this season?
