Rumour Mill-Riordan back on Clarets Agenda

The media have been linking out-of-favour Celtic striker, Derek Riordan with a move to Burnley for most of this year.

Owen Coyle failed with a 400,000 bid for the former Hibernian player in January and is still understood to be keen to bring the 25-year-old to Turf Moor

BBC Sport now believe Derek Riordan could be a Clarets player before the end of the week. They go on to say that although no new bid has been made an agreement could be reached before Celtic begin pre-season training.

The Edinburgh News state that according to a report this morning Burnley are poised to sign him in a 750,000 deal having last night talked with Celtic.

The player has struggled to make any impact under Gordon Strachan and their relationship has appeared to steadily deteriorate.

Clarets fans believed we were no longer after the striker with rumours also circulating that he may instead move to Yorkshire and sign for either Barnsley or even League One side, Leeds United. The latest strong media links can only bring cheer to us all

Once again here is a You Tube link for those that missed it of Riordan scoring for fun during his time at Hibernian.

Sorry Martyn, maybe we need an admin alert system! ;-)

I think we do :P

Here we go again :-). We will be a real threat going forward if this lad is signed. If we can get him and add another quality defender, then I believe that we will have a really really really strong first 11. We will have a few decent back up options, but could do with a couple more perhaps using the loan system.
smitrit
do we even have 750k left in the bank?
MartynRobboBFC
We had bids in for many players before we sold Lafferty and have not spent the proceeds from that, so I imagine we have some left in the kitty to get Riordan, Driver and another defender.
smitrit
I wouldn't be too sure though really.
MartynRobboBFC
I think the Lafferty deal has simply helped to up our bids and secure our key targets. Lets not forget, one came on a Bosman too(Kalvenes) and there may be others like that at the back of Coyle's mind. I think anyway there is enough in the kitty still to secure Riordan & Driver at least [Edited by turfmanphil]

I wish you luck with this kid if you get him. He has undoubted talent but has to grow up and learn that he is no different from anyone else when it comes to fighting for a place and showing you DESERVE one. Good luck tho, he does have quality if it can be brought out.
weetim67
Well done IF you get him ....I would have liked Ipswich to take an interest in him......But ah well.....

*****!! Coyle has said: "I don't know where it has come from but it's certainly not from anyone at Burnley Football Club. "It's well-documented I tried to sign him in January but there has been nothing since." The source is Teamtalk not that reliable but they must have got it from somewhere
turfmanphil
Looks like they got it from Sporting Life!! :-(
