New Squad Numbers Announced

The players have been allocated their new shirt numbers for season 2008-9 with very few changes from last season.

Only two players from last season have been given a new number. One is the unfortunate keeper, Gabor Kiraly who hands over the Number 1 jersey to Diego Penny. He now takes the vacant Number 17 jersey from Kyle Lafferty with Jensen keeping his favoured Number 12.

Alex MacDonald, previously Number 28 now takes over the 27 shirt vacated by loan, Andrew Cole.

Of the new signings in addition to Penny as previously announced, Kalvenes takes up the Number 3 shirt vacated by Jon Harley whilst Kevin McDonald is the new Number 7 after the departure of James O'Connor. Martin Paterson is the new Number 10, the number previously used by Andy Gray and then Mark Randall during his loan spell.

These means that the following shirts up to 27 are still available ignoring Shirt 13 which will probably never be allocated:

Number 15 vacated by John Spicer

Number 21 vacated by Garreth O'Connor

Number 24 vacated by Stanislav Varga

Number 26 vacated just today after the announcement that David Unsworth would be leaving the club.

Not sure you can read anything into these numbers. They have simply kept the same numbers as last year more or less with the newbies taking the ones vacated by players leaving.

Seems strange Kiraly has been booted out the no.1 shirt, how did he do for the Clarets last year?
wfc123
It's not strange at all, hes transfer listed.

^haha. not much in this really, apart from the kiraly one.

Ok. 'fraid I didn't know that, but thanks for filling me in.

no problem mate

I'd still like enough signings to fill the 15, 21, 24 and 26 shirts (and even 17 if/when Kiraly goes)!!!!!

Would be good to have a full squad of 27 players available supplemented with 3 loans!! ;-)
turfmanphil
We could do with a new number 14 and 23 :-) Suppose we need the back up options though and OC might get more out of these players with a full pre-season to go at. It is another chance for these 2 players to prove they are good enough if they actually are.

I think we should aim for 25-30 players. We will have 25 if we get the three new players Coyle says he needs although that still includes Kiraly. If we get 25 and bring in a couple of loans I will be well chuffed
