Rumour Mill-Ritchie Jones

21-year-old, Manchester born Richard Jones is looking for a new club after being released by Premier League champions Manchester United earlier this week.

Jones came through the youth system at Old Trafford joining the Red Devils Academy at the age of nine. The midfielder who prefers to play in the centre made five first-team appearances for United.

The Clarets trialled the player back in March 2008 but are thought to still be interested in signing him according to Sky Sports. Jones was on trial at Burnley for a week. Clarets gaffer Owen Coyle said at that time that he liked the look of Jones, but felt it inappropriate to say any more while he was still under contract at another club

Should the Clarets wish to pursue their interest, they will face stiff competition to secure his services with Tranmere and Hearts leading the chase while Blackpool and Hartlepool are also thought to have checked out the former England Under 19 international.

Jones also spent time on loan at Yeovil Town last season and previously had spells on loan at Manchester United's feeder club, Royal Antwerp in addition to Colchester and Barnsley.

Not sure why Tranmere would be more attractive than Burnley?

Tranmere would offer him 1st team football week in wek out. And are very close to Manchester where he probably lives.

Burnley is I think nearer than Tranmere, and he would probably get first team football at Turf Moor too at a higher level?

Hearts are interested in signing freed Manchester United midfielder Ritchie Jones. (Daily Express/Daily Star) -30th June 08

Without looking at stats, but going off the amount of loan spells he has had suggests that he has played a good number of first team games, so could be a good addition to the squad to give us more depth. Being free is also a bonus.
