Rumour Mill-Christian Kalvenes

Setanta Sports have suggested that Dundee United left back, Christian Kalvenes might choose Burnley ahead of a return to his native Norway.

His contract at Dundee United has expired and the 31 year old is now looking for another club.

Kalvenes joined Dundee United for a fee of around £50,000 in August 2006, signing from Norwegian side, SK Brann where he started his professional career back in 1995 before returning to the club in 2003 via Asane and Norwegian Premier League side Sogndal.

"The club and I have agreed on a contract," said Kalvanes "It is a very good team, who are attempting to move up from last year.

"Clearly, it's very exciting to get such an opportunity."

The defender also stressed that nothing has yet been signed but indicated he was heading to Burnley to sort out some finer details. It is also understood from other sources that he could well sign a contract on Monday

That as come out of the blue. Nothing about him on the grapevine that I was aware of. Terms agreed, but nothing signed!! Well, well, well. We do need to blend youth with experience and need to replace Jordan. Will this lad be good enough to be a regular left back? I will have to get on their message boards for intel :-)
smitrit
well he can't be any worse than jordan.

Strange how Setanta and nobody else picked up on this?

Aye, we suddenly got out the blocks at long last and by Monday could have signed at least four players within about a week

It's a weird situation this, it's like a certain Todmorden News man told Vital Burnley that there could be activity today ;)

More now from Sky Sports: Kalvenes is available on a free transfer after seeing out his contract at Tannadice. Burnley have made their move for the Norwegian and Kalvenes is thought to have agreed a one-year deal at Turf Moor. The full-back is set to undergo a medical next week before putting the finishing touches to his move and Kalvenes is excited about moving to the Championship. "It will be a big challenge to play in the Championship," Kalvenes told Bergens Tidende. "We agreed on the last details on Tuesday evening."

Many thanks to Doggert, our Norwegian Claret who has translated the Norwegian article and also commented in our forum. His email read: He (Christian Klavenes) is to arrive Burnley on Monday, and if he is satisfied with the circumstances, he will sign a one-year deal, says Klavenes to the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidene. He has played at Dundee United for the last seasons in the Scottish league. Before that he has played at Brann, Sogndal, Åsane and Varegg. Burnley if one of the classic English clubs, and Klavenes can play as a central defender, back and defensive midfielder. He comes to a club that has won the league on two occasions, last time in 1960. I’ll write something about him at vital Burnley shortly. Looked up some news about him, and found an interview he gave to Bergens Tidene, he said: “I’ve been talking to them for a while, and yesterday (Tuesday) evening we agreed on the contract-terms and what is left is to travel to Burnley and check that everything is right, and if it is I’ll sing. It is a one year contract. I’m very excited and looking forward to the challenge of playing in Championship"

According to Daily Mirror today,he's signed!:Burnley boss Owen Coyle is taking Norwegian left back Christian Kalvenes on a free transfer from Dundee United. Coyle made the tall Kalvenes, 31, his third capture in three days after the defender snubbed an offer from Brann Bergen at home. The Clarets hope to have Peru international keeper Diego Penny signed today if he wins a work permit appeal.
turfmanphil
got a club text he has signed!!!!!!!
tomlaw
Yep, he's in,2 year deal! Number 4 assuming Penny signs!! Next? ;-)
