Defeat in the final for the Fans Team

THE Burnley Supporters Team were yesterday beaten by Tranmere Rovers in the final of the bottom four clubs.

The day didn't start well with a 1-0 defeat to local rivals Preston North End in the opening game of the tournament, before losing 3-1 at the hands of Oldham ultimately knocking the Clarets out of the competition.

But with one game remaining and spirits running low, the team was dramatically changed for the last group game against Huddersfield Town.

Goalkeeper and Captain Will O'Neill started upfront alongside a clueless partner in Samuel Pritchard, while defender James Wyne took the gloves and put in a fantastic performance.

Although the game ended in a 4-1 defeat, with the wind blowing two crosses into the back of the net,it was the most enjoyable game yet and players were playing with a smile on their faces.

So then the bottom two teams of each group went into their own Play-Offs, with Burnley dispatching Port Vale in the Semi-Finals with a fantastic penalty win. Stand in keeper 'Inchy' was the man of the moment saving the first three Vale penalties with some fantastic stops.

Only Richard Davies missed from the spot as the Clarets headed into the final to face Tranmere, who grabbed a winner in injury time.
