Coyle Speaks about Paterson Deal

Owen Coyle is close to signing his first full-time player for the club, following the news that the Iron have accepted the club's offer for Martin Paterson.

Coyle told the Official Site

'We have agreed a fee with Scunthorpe for Martin, who was always a target of ours

'Clearly any fee is subject to discussing terms with Martin and his representative.'

The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international striker and former Stoke player, will now discuss these personal terms with the Clarets tomorrow.

The Official site have also confirmed that the deal subject to the player agreeing terms will involve paying Scunthorpe £1 million plus a further £300,000 depending on appearances. The Iron will also receive 20% of any future profit made by Burnley

Paterson has been known to be unhappy at Scunthorpe for some time, and following earlier failed bids by Burnley FC, handed in a transfer request. Other clubs were reported to be interested in the striker, notably Norwich who had a £850,000 bid turned down in the January transfer window.

It was reported in the media however that it was Burnley who were in the driving seat with the player wanting to play in the Championship with the Clarets thought to be his target.

Well we are nearly there but I wont be rejoicing until he finally puts pen to paper and agrees to terms tomorrow.

He's still young and got experience in the Championship with Scunny. I think he will do really well at Burnley.

I don't see him not agreeing terms. He stated he wanted to come here and I'm sure our wage structure must be higher than Scunny's. From what they say, he justs needs to learn how to stay onside. OC will teach him that with his own striking experience plus we have Robbie and Ade to help him. Plenty of experience at all levels for the lad to improve his game.

I cant believe either that we wont be able to offer a package that's acceptable to Paterson but if we cant we really are up the swanny! What do you think of some message board taunts that we have paid well over the odds for this guy, and been paniced into getting the player to save face after all the other disappointments eg Penny,Gow etc? Think they are way off the mark to be honest
