Rumour Mill-Back for Paterson?
Local papers Burnley Express, the Lancashire Telegraph and the Todmorden News have published recent articles suggesting that Martin Paterson wants to come to Burnley and that a deal might be completed by the end of this week.
The Clarets will now also have additional coffers in the bank following the transfer of Lafferty to Rangers yesterday for £3 million up front suggesting the club may be ready to up the ante following two unsuccessful bids.
According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Paterson, based on local sources is believed to favour a move to Burnley over other clubs reported to be interested in signing the striker which include fellow Championship rivals, Cardiff Ipswich and Norwich.
He has made it public he wishes to leave the Iron and has already had a transfer request turned down. He clearly wants to play for a Championship side, rather than try and get newly relegated Scunthorpe promoted back up from League 1 at their first attempt.
Burnley have had previous offers of £400,000 plus an improved bid of £450,000 with £100,000 in add-ons, and a further installment depending on promotion to the Premier League turned down by Scunthorpe
It is believed an offer in the region of £750,000 would secure the services of the 21 year old. Norwich had a failed bid of £850,000 turned down in the January window but at that time, Scunthorpe were still in the Championship and Paterson was happy to continue playing for them.
