Carling Cup...It's Bury!

Carling Cup...It's Bury!

Burnley have drawn League 2 side, Bury away in the first round of the Carling Cup.

The match will be played on Tuesday 12th August or Wednesday 13th August (Kick Off 7:45pm)

The Clarets played against Bury at Gigg Lane in August 2004 in the same stage of the competition. Burnley were the 3-2 victors in Steve Cotterill's first season as manager. Blake scored a brace that day to add to the own goal by Bury's Mattis. This was to be Blake's last season for the Clarets during his first spell with the club.

The Clarets will be hoping to do better than last season in this competition when they finally fell 1-0 at home to Premier League side, Portsmouth in the Third Round after two less than convincing performances against Grimsby away in the first round (1:1 after extra time,4:2 winners on penalties) and Oldham at home in the second round (3:0 winners)

Teams from the Championship(including last season's relegated Premier league sides), League One and League Two(including promoted Conference sides) were included in the first round draw.

As before clubs were drawn out on the basis of the north south divide with clubs seeded or unseeded. The Clarets were of course in the seeded North grouping

Due to pathetic copyright laws and the money grabbing oiks at Dataco, we have to pay for a licence to publish the fixtures for the full draw! We wont be giving them the money or the pleasure so click this link instead:

Should be a full house at Gigg Lane for this first round tie.

Could be a cracking atmosphere and we will need to be on our guard. Bury will be up for this!
