Rumour Mill-New Laffs Celtic Bid

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has made a fresh 3.75million bid for Kyle Lafferty according to today's Daily Mirror.

The offer involves 2.75m cash plus striker Derek Riordan. The offer means that Celtic still rate Riordan at 1 million, despite the striker being out of action for most of the season and unable to break into the sixteen.

That alone may be offputting to the Clarets and they have made it known they will not accept anything less than 4 million cash (or equivalent) for Lafferty.

An interesting sideline to the offer is that Celtic would be willing to play a friendly fixture between the clubs allowing Burnley to keep the receipts.

All these bids are getting tiresome for most Clarets fans with most eager to see a deal struck and quickly so we can move on.

I think this is a reasonable offer and would bring an exciting player Coyle respects to Turf Moor.

is this boy actually any good? seems alot of teams eager to sign him but, with all due respect, his goal return is far from impressive and he looked poor in the only game ive seen him play which was against arsenal where he got sent off.

Strachan seems to rate him so make your own judgement on that one. Last season was an odd one for Lafferty, he was played out wide for most of it, which explains his lower goal tally. You are buying potential here, thats the key and there is always an element of risk with that

lot of money for potential, we need a player who can walk straight into the team and give us somethin different. also, for that kind of money, u expect someone who can do it in the CL - would be surprised if thats the case??

You may be right, the general feeling around these parts is that Lafferty, who really wants to play in the Premier League, would be more suited by a move to Wolves than a move to the Old Firm where he would probably rot away in the reserves! Not sure what Strachan's intentions might be. Most Clarets fans though want shut of him and quickly so we can move on! Please take him off our hands and breathe some hope into Riordan's lungs.

i admire ur honesty - ur a poor salesman tho ;-) personally id rather we spent the money elsewhere. riordan would be a good signing for u if u can keep him out the pubs/clubs and owen coyle can get him to get his finger out and stop feelin sorry for himself which i think he could.

It will be interesting to see if Coyle bites this time, although he is supposed to be out watching the Euro 2008 for talent so no doubt it will be assisant Sandy Stewart doing the PR at this end after being on the blower to his boss. The difference compared to the alleged Rangers and Wolves player-cash deals is that Riordan is wanted and respected by Coyle so in that sense you may have the advantage whether your fans like it or not! ;-)

He can score at International level, so no reason why he can't in the CL. Like TMP says, you are buying raw potential. He is talented with much to learn, but his season playing on the wing for us will have helped big time. It worked for Henry. If he goes to Celtic and does not get regular football he will waste away and basically end his career which happens to lots of players these days in the Premier. Youth are not getting a go unless they are at Arsenal. He should stay at our level for one full season leading the line and then he will be proven, but his value would probably double again.

Well I would agree if he hadn't come out and dissed the club, gaffer and fans! Dont think there is anyway Laffs could now play again for the Clarets, the risk would be too great and the hostile reception from the boo-boy element would only undermine team confidence and lessen our chances of getting three points! I agree though that he should still ply his trade with a Championship side, which is probably why Wolves is his best bet,not that I give a damn where he ends up!

4million is a disgrace for a mediocre championship player. Strachan must go if he intends to waste our money like this.

Well it would appear we have three duff managers who dont recognise talent & potential then, step forward Strachan, McCarthy and Walter Smith!

Looks like this is going to drag on into next week if you beleive Laffs agent,Gordon Armstrong who said: "The clubs need to sit down and discuss it and that isn't a likely situation until next week at the earliest. "Owen is on holiday at the minute and he will want to be involved in any talks. "Celtic and Wolves have made firm offers but there are still discussions to take place and I don't expect anything to be resolved in the next few days. Rangers made an early offer for Kyle but have not come back."

Fed up of it all now Mr. L*fferty, no one cares where you go, you'll most likely f up your career when you go anyway. Just leave!

Careful Martyn,Laffs will blame you as one of the reasons for wanting to go! Aw bless, who the bugger cares!! I have had enough of arrogant footballers who have forgotten what the word loyalty means and will run to the press via their daddy agents to get what they want! Bring back the days when the club has the power to decide who goes and who stays so they cant be held to ransom by money-grabbing oiks! If clubs however, unreasomably hold onto players without playing them like Riordan at Celtic then in fairness there should be some sort of tribunal to sort it out

Those figures don't make sense when O'Riordon seems to be going for about 500,000 to any other club!

now surely you see the irony in your last statement, phil?? i think a bit of time spent away from thinking about burnley would benefit you, and not least your ability to think rationally.
