Rumour Mill-Darren Byfield

Released by Bristol City last week, the Clarets were rumoured in the News of the World yesterday to be after the 31-year old journeyman striker, Darren Byfield

He may have had a habit of scoring against us but I cant see why we would be after this player, age will go against him and there are better players out there.

Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea were also reported to be interested.

The Jamaican International (6 caps to date) has certainly been around playing for eleven clubs in his career to date.

The Birmingham-born player started his professional career with Aston Villa and in a two year spell spent most of his time on loan to other clubs including Preston, Northampton, Cambridge United and Blackpool.

He then signed for Walsall in 2000 and played 77 games for them scoring 13 goals.

Following a loan spell with Rotherham he then signed for them permanently in 2002 scoring 20 gaols in 65 appearnaces before moving to Sunderland.

He had a brief spell for the Black Cats before going to Gillingham in 2004(67 appearances/19 goals) and then Millwall in 2006 (31 appearances/17 goals).

Byfield was signed by Bristol City on 29 August 2007 on a one year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Bristol City released five players last week, including top goalscorer Darren Byfield, following their defeat in the Championship play-off final.

Hope this one isn't true to be honest. We can do better, espedially if Coyle really wants to bring down age of squad. He might have been top scorer for Bristol City but he only scored 8 goals!

Can't see this too be honest and hopefully he will want to stay down South. Plymouth or Swansea should suit him fine.

Would you really want him? he's never really done a great deal.
