'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sandy Stewart Speaks on Burnley Transfer Situation

Sandy Stewart commenting on the Clarets attempts to sign new players told BBC Radio Lancashire:

'We've spread our net far and wide,'

'It's not just in Europe we've been looking. We've been to other continents looking for players.'

Stewart then went on to talk about the failed opening bids for Andrew Driver at Hearts and Kevin McDonald at Dundee

'I think youv'e got to be choosey about the sort of players you get in and you've got to pick them carefully

'Andrew's been playing with Hearts for a couple of years now and has done very well. Kevin McDonald has also been in the Dundee first-team for a number of years, even though he's very young.

'But it's not a case of getting as many players in as soon as possible. I think you've got to be choosey about the sort of players you get in and you've got to pick them carefully,

'It's young, fresh players we definitely need.'

'There has been interest in certain players but unfortunately it got out through the teams we've approached. We'd rather keep things under wraps until such times as we've sealed a deal.

'We also don't want to lull our fans into a sense of false security because when they think a player's coming and you don't deliver they start asking questions,'

These statements appear to confirm that we have also been interested in Andrew Driver and Kevin McDonald along with Scunthorpe's Martin Paterson but to date we have yet to sign anybody.

Frustrating times for Clarets fans and I am afraid whether our interests are leaked or not by other clubs, the fact still remains the new management regime have yet to sign their first permanent player. Until that happens, Clarets fans will continue to have doubts and suspicions being unable to relax until some postitive news is forthcoming. A number are getting increasingly fed up with bids being turned down. All they see are players not accepting new contracts offered, some players appearing to stab the club in the back (Kyle Lafferty) and a small squad now getting smaller & smaller with no new signings on the board.

The Club talk is fine but action is now needed and quickly.

More talk but still stalemate!

We know how you feel at QPR, lots of talk and limited action. Still there is a whole summer ahead! Lafferty's attitude worries me, as does that young Bostock at Palace, money grabbing sods!

I can't see much happening anywhere until July when Euro is finished and players start to report back for triaining.

I know what you are saying lads, and maybe patience is a virtue in a long close season but when you see the likes of Forest just coming up getting their man (Earnshaw) and other signings being wrapped up by Championside rivals, you begin to despair a bit! It's made wrose at our end because our out of contract players offered deals dont appear to be interested, we cant even sign Andy Cole and now Laffs is making a laffing stock of the club! I am sure everything will be ok once Coyle/Srewart prove they can attract and sign players to this club

Forest have paid too much for Earnshaw IMO. Only deals will be sorted out before the transfer window where selling clubs get offers that are too good to turn down. Earnshaw being one of them. I mean what has he done over the last couple of seasons to prove he is worth that money?

Well to be fair he was injured for most of his last season with Norwich and then couldnt hack it in the Premier League with Derby. Probably a good Championship player, if somewhat arrogant & big headed. He scored 85 goals in 178 games for Cardiff, 12 in 43 for WBA and 27 in 45 for Norwich! Worth a punt by Forest, and put it this way, they wanted him, they got him and didnt put in stupidly low bids on a hiding to nowt!
