James O'Connor Says No Deal

Clarets midfielder James O'Connor has failed to agree a new deal and will be the fouth player in the close season to depart the club following Garreth O'Connor, Jon Harley and John Spicer.

Coyle had offered O'Connor new terms with his contract due to expire this summer

There is however believed to be interest from other clubs and the player has been accused of stalling on his decision after returning recently from holiday.

Owen Coyle had this to say about the situation:

'We made James an offer, which was a fair one, but he was waiting to hear back from a couple of other clubs,'

'I've got no problem with him excercising those rights, but I'm not going to wait about for him to come back later and say he's not going to stay, so I have wished him all the best.'

Calm down fella :-) I don't think he would have been in the starting 11 next season. It is however one less squad player. I would rather have a loanee as back up than paying a good wage to O'Connor. Good player at times and had a pretty decent season, but lets see what players OC brings to the club.

I rate JOC quite highly to be honest, more than some I know. We will miss him next season and we are another one squad member down. Coyle says he's trying to bring in five but doesnt think he will get them all. No where near enough even if he got all five since four have already gone!

By the way do you sense there is something amiss at the club? We haven't succeeded in keeping anybody yet-Cole, Harley, JOC and even Unsworth seems to be stalling. Only Beast has accepted so far

I think it is down to the wage offers. Coyle must be trying to free up as much cash as possible to get the right players in although risking losing current players. He as got to be following through with his wish of reducing the age looking at those players. Hopefully we will not miss any of them when the new players arrive. He says he has bid for 5 players and we will probably get 2 of them, but he will be still looking to bid for more. I assume these 5 are his first choice signings.

I guess we all have to be patient and see how things pan out but so far the omens dont look good to me. We seem to have lots of talk from Coyle whilst players leave by the back door without anybody new coming in. If we start the season on 22-23 again in the squad, you can look forward to midtable mediocrity again,thats for certain

With the news leaking that he could be joining Sheff Wed it appears he already had plans to leave us and was just looking at a few offers. At least its another player off our wage bill that did not want to be here.

I wonder if Coyle has been giving derisory deals to try and get better players in on higher salaries. Just hope the strategy doesnt backfire. David Weir?-you are having a larf!
