Clarets Off to the Glens

Burnley FC have announced their sixth pre-season friendly with a club with close connections to the Clarets over the years,Glentoran.

The Clarets will travel to Belfast on Thursday, July 31st (kick-off time to be confirmed) at The Oval.

Both these clubs were founded in 1882, and therefore both have recently been celebrating their 125th anniversary. So this friendly is really an ideal way to celebrate 125 years. Clarets legends, Jimmy McIlroy, Alex Elder and more recently, Glen Little also played for Glentoran before coming to Turf Moor.

Clarets gaffer Owen Coyle said:

'With Glentoran also recently celebrating their 125th anniversary, it is a momentous time for both clubs, and I think it's a fantastic and appropriate way to mark such an occasion.

'We look forward to meeting the people of Glentoran.'

The announcement follows hot on the heals of the friendlies confirmed in Scotland.

Burnley travel north to take on Scottish Cup finalists Queen of the South at Palmerston Park on Saturday, July 19th (kick-off 3 p.m.), before facing Partick Thistle two days later on the Monday at Firhill (kick-off 7-30 p.m.).

The squad will then complete their tour of Scotland with a game at Owen Coyle and Sandy Stewart's former club St Johnstone on Wednesday, July 23rd, with the kick-off time to be confirmed.

So then the full list of pre-season friendlies announced so far will be Accrington (A), Bradford (A), Glentoran (A) and the Scottish tour. Surely we have a home one planned?

I hope we are going to get a home friendly or two to watch? I reckon maybe someone like Wigan would be good or at least a Premier League Side. Man City?

Although away don't we play Man Utd as part of the Coffey deal?
