Harley Offered Deal, Spicer Off!

Burnley Football Club has offered new contracts to Brian Jensen, David Unsworth, James O'Connor, Jon Harley and Jay Rodriguez.

Jon Harley was perhaps a surprise based on earlier announcements in the media and on other Clarets messageboards but they were all correct about John Spicer who has been released.

Jensen, O'Connor and Harley are now all considering the contracts on offers as is veteran defender David Unsworth, who has been offered a one-year deal as a player/coach with the task of developing the younger players at the club.

Local boy Jay Rodriguez, only 18, has been offered a two-year contract along with young guns Adam Kay and Alex MacDonald, who have both been offered first year professional terms

'I have spoken to all the players individually and having spoken to Brian (Jensen), James (O'Connor) and Jon (Harley), we have offered them deals

'They have obviously got other interests though, so we await their replies'

'David (Unsworth) has been offered a one-year coaching deal as I feel he has a lot to offer this football club

'His ability will be welcome on the coaching side of things, with regard to developing our young players, which is the way ahead.

'Within that, we would still retain his playing registration and again, we now await David's reply.'

The gaffer has also promised to look at retaining the services of striker Andrew Cole, should Sunderland release the 36-year-old at the end of his current deal.

'Andrew goes back to Sunderland and if they decide not to offer him anything, then obviously we will have a chat.' he said

The club have also announced they will hear offers for keeper, Gabor Kiraly with Jensen seeing off yet another keeper given the Number 1 jersey!

Yep, no major surprises methinks although it is interesting that Harley is being offered a contract afterall. All we have to do now is see if they all accept

I like Harley despite his Chelsea/Fulham connections, always strikes me as a useful player.
