Stan Ternent-New Huddersfield Manager

Former Clarets manager, Stan Ternent has been given permission by Derby to join League One side Huddersfield as their new manager.

Ternent now 61 joined the Rams as assistant manager five months ago helping Paul Jewell with the hopeless task of keeping Derby in the Premier League.

However he will now take over from Andy Ritchie at the Galpharm Stadium.

Derby chairman of football Adam Pearson said:

"We have given him permission to join Huddersfield as their manager.

"We have not sought any compensation from Huddersfield.

"I would like to thank Stan Ternent for the hard work he has put in for Derby and the support he has given Paul Jewell."

Former Terrier with Clarets connections, Ronnie Jepson is also set to join Huddersfield as his assistant bringing back the situation they both enjoyed at Gillingham.

Heck, he did alright for us for a time, thought he would be an ideal candidate for getting clubs in the lower divisions promoted. Give him a chance at least

nah its a poor appointment mate all town fans wanted hutchings or martin allen, would have been more appropriate than an old man its a shocker and very dissapointing

Well you might be surprised but let's see. I can understand you might want someone younger although at 61 Ternent is hardly past it just yet

But they have worked well together over the seasons, Jepson has been both player and assistant manager under Ternent. Bury & Burnley have seen promotions under the two and they nearly rescued another from the drop appointed half-way through a season at Gillingham. Like I say, for heavens sake give them a chance. There is nowt you can do about it anyway now the appointments have been made, what you going to do, boo the pair as soon as they come onto the pitch and before they have had chance to succeed or fail?

Can't understand all the negative comments coming from Huddersfield fans. I very much doubt they will come back on here holding their hands up saying sorry for not listening, but you were right. They just don't seem like that kind of reasoning bunch. I think he is by far the best choice given their cicumstances and he will do a good job for them.

Very strange the wording on the Official Huddersfield site, they just say they have approached Ternent to be manager not confirmed as such. Derby's statement though seems to suggest a fait a complis, normally they would say "We have given him permission to speak to Huddersfield" not "We have given him permission to join Huddersfield as their manager...and the rest about no compensation etc"

he aint confirmed yet and i hope he isnt we dont want him i agree maybe he was a good manager but look at the history pages at our vital site and the type of manager we were promised is not jepson and ternent combo in fact thats what we feared getting ronnie jepson he is a town legend but he is going to quickly lose his love affair with the fans is he a quality manager was he out of work check out the link no we didnt expect or want this for our great club he dnt deserve the job either http://www.huddersfield.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=106316

Yes, I have been reading some of this stuff, I have to say I do think your fans who ask for calm and giving them a chance have it right but they do seem in the minority! If the Derby statement is not true it sounds like Ternent has burnt his bridges and given up a good job at Derby. Cant help thining there is more to this than being announced but I suspect you will have them as your management team quite soon unless something has hit the rails at the last moment

Yep,Stan has signed a three year deal and both Stan & Ronnie have had a glowing reference from the Huddersfield Chairman: "Stan is very experienced and his pedigree at this level speaks for itself. For our Centenary we were determined to appoint someone with a successful record in the third tier of English football and his promotions to the second tier with Bury and Burnley meant that he stood head and shoulders above the other applicants."

..and on Ronnie ""As for Ronnie Jepson, his desire to be at Huddersfield Town was obvious when he applied for the managerial role. His relationship with the Club stretches back over a decade and having previously played for and worked with Stan at Bury, Burnley and Gillingham, all parties are convinced there is no one better for him to team up with that Stan."
