Club announce launch of new kit for 2008/9
Burnley FC on their Official Site have announced that they will unveil the new home kit for the 2008/09 Championship season later this week.
Supporters can get their first glimpse of the Errea-produced kit from midday on Thursday, April 24.
The shirt, which goes on sale from the Clarets Store on Saturday, will also be modelled around the pitch ahead of the final Championship game of the season against Cardiff City.
Hampshire Thief is No Saint!
Money and jewellery from Burnley players were stolen from their dressing room during Saturday's victory over Southampton. The thief is believed to have pounced after the players came out for the second half with the thefts discovered about 5:15pm.
Police were called to St Mary's stadium in Southampton within a few minutes of the final whistle, after players from both sides returned to their dressing rooms to find they had been robbed of their money and belongings.
It is understood that nine Burnley players and five Southampton players were targeted in a theft worth more than £2,500 in total.
Club staff and officials who were at the ground during the afternoon were all quizzed by police after the thefts were discovered. No arrests have yet been made yet.
A Southampton FC spokesman said: 'We can confirm that there was an incident which we are investigating but we cannot comment further until we have more details.'
It is also understood that embarrassed officials at Southampton have totally reimbursed the players for their loss and everybody is asking whether the dressing rooms were locked at half-time or whether there was a lapse in security.
Clarets and Rovers Rivalry by no Means the Worst
A survey of 6,000 fans across the country conducted by The New Football Pools has been carried out to find out which teams have the biggest rivalries in football.
The survey took into account the responses of both sets of fans, the respective league and cup records of the two clubs, the regularity of league and cup meetings between the rivals, the two club's records when playing each other, the impact on attendances when they meet, transfers between clubs and fans reactions to those transfers and off the field factors such as media coverage of the rivalry.
The top prize for rivalry went to West Midland neighbours West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The highest North West rivalry was between Liverpool and Manchester United who came third in the table behind Ipswich Town and Norwich City.
Preston and Blackpool's hatred for each other placed them in 12th place.
But what about the Clarets and that lost down the road? Well maybe surprisingly, Burnley and Blackburn`s rivalry only came 15th although I suppose not playing each other in the same league in recent years may have had something to do with that.
Sunday Tabloids Rumours-Jon Harley & the Kids
Speculation that Jon Harley might be leaving in the summer was heightened by news that Leeds might be interested in the player. He has not yet signed a new contract for Burnley and has missed the last two matches apparently due to a hamstring injury in the first case when we played the Blades at Turf Moor two weeks ago but also against Southampton last Saturday. However, in this case we heard from Owen Coyle that Jon Harley`s child had to be rushed into hospital which is why he missed the trip down to Hampshire.
The suspicions therefore evaporated although the steam was turned up again when Jon Harley was not selected as one of the Club`s players to choose for Player of the Year. Alexander was however named but he is generally thought by a number of Clarets fans to have had a relatively poor season especially compared to Jon Harley. So the grassy knoll conspiracy theorists raised the possibility that Harley was not named because he was going.
So will he stay or will he go? I think and hope he will stay but we shall see.
The tabloids also suggested that Owen Coyle would be sending two of our young guns out on loan to Partick Thistle next season for valuable work experience and regular games. Coyle and the Thistle gaffer, Ian McCall are reported to be mates.
The two named players, were young striker Jay Rodriguez, named in the squad for 2007/8 and recently enjoying a loan stint north of the border at Stirling Albion and the other was Alex MacDonald who is about to complete his two year apprenticeship . He will be hoping to secure a professional deal next season but seems to be highly rated by Coyle who allowed him to train with the first team recently boosting his confidence and hopes for a deal.
Best Finish on the Cards since 2002
The Clarets are currently 12th in the table on 61 points already more points than any season since 2002.
In recent times our best finish was 13th in 2005 in Cotterill`s first season which was the best since the back-to-back seventh-place finishes in 2001 and 2002.
Coyle said: 'I'm told that's our best points total for six seasons, so that gives us a foundation for something to build on and shows we're going in the right direction.
'I've been disappointed and hurt in the last couple of weeks with the results, as much as anybody else, because we've shown we're a match for anybody.
'But it gives us that platform to build on.
'I do want to increase that points total and have a feelgood factor going into the close season, and the two remaining games present that opportunity.
