A Clue in Reserves Defeat?

Burnley Reserves lost 0-1 to Pontin's League leaders Morecambe tonight, but a couple of substitutions could be a clue to a back-four selection for our first team match away to Southampton at St Marys this Saturday.

Duff could well be in line for a first team return after being withdrawn after just 60 minutes of play.

Clarke Carlisle also played in the game, being substituted for the second half with just 46 minutes on the clock. Both players are believed to have come through the match unscathed suggesting Coyle may be saving both defenders for a first team return this Saturday.

Michael Duff was in the sixteen last Saturday against Sheffield United at Turf Moor, but didn`t feature in our 2-1 defeat. If Duff does play against the Saints in our next match this Saturday, it will be his first appearance for the first team since he damaged his cruciate ligament against Crystal Palace at home back in September 2007.

Carlisle on the other hand has now sat out his three-match ban following his late red-card sending off against Preston at Deepdale a few weeks back, and the reserve game could have been a way of shaking off the cobwebs!

In the reserve match against Morecambe, Burnley came out of the blocks the sharpest with Rob Turner twice getting the best opportunity to score.

The Shrimps had Simon Grand sent off for a desperate two-footed challenge on Dean Stott, the young Clarets right-back.

The ten men advantage was not taken though and with five minutes left on the clock, Aaron Taylor picked up the long-ball and clipped it over the advancing Kiraly.

Gabor Kiraly, Dean Stott, Michael Duff (Nik Kudiersky 61), Clarke Carlisle (Chris Lynch 46), Tom Bradley; Adam Kay, Mark Randall (James Craggs 66), Garreth O'Connor, John Spicer; Alex MacDonald, Rob Turner.

Subs not used: Jonathan Sergeant, Chris Anderson.

Nothing to lose playing Duff in last three games now, Alexander could make way although one hopes Harley is fit again at left back-I worry about Jordan's confidence! Back four choice for me would be Duff, Carlisle, Caldwell, Harley.

Well they were both in sixteen! Still seems reluctant to play Duff though, on bench against Saints! Wow,Carlisle ws awesome though as the yanks say! ;-)
