Rumour Mill-Riordan Again

Burnley are ready to launch a fresh bid for out-of-favour Celtic forward Derek Riordan, according to the Sun today.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is believed to be ready to release Riordan at the end of the season. The manager will not have been too pleased after being subject to a weekend outburst by the player. Riordan, now 25 has been frustrated for some time at Celtic and feels he has been given little chance to prove his worth. The Daily Record today reports that Derek Riordan faces showdown talks with Strachan today over an unpaid club fine and his comments to the media

The player has made just 13 starts and 19 substitute appearances for Celtic since signing from Hibs in June 2006.

The Clarets were rumoured to be interested in the player during the last January transfer window and at one point it was thought that Lafferty could be joining the Scottish club in a cash & player deal involving Riordan coming the other way.

If Owen Coyle resurrects his interest though he could face competition from local rivals, Preston.

Yesterday the Daily Record reported that Preston gaffer Alan Irvine could be ready to bid for the player also suggesting they might be putting together a package.

Here we go again!! Bloody Preston going for one or our alleged targets once again! Grrr

I think we will have the edge on this one with OC plus we have already shown a great deal of interest previously.

Could be,especially if we finish somewhat higher than Preston. Worries me though if we are going to get the Laffs factor again

There is no way Lafferty will be involved. We don't want to sell him, he does not want to go apparently and it looks like either Riordan wants out or the manager may not want to keep him any longer.

It will interesting if we can hold onto him despite what you say about Laffs. Not sure if we should hold onto him if someone comes in with the millions plus a player. If thats Riordan it could complicate things and let Preston in via the back door. I would prefer a simple lets get Riordan if we want him and as you say this time it might be easier in view of the argy bargy with Strachan. Mind you looking at some of the comments from Celtic fans recently it could be Strachan who is despatched!

About time we won one though!

Preston manager Alan Irvine said he could not understand why the link had been made. However, it appears his Burnley counterpart Owen Coyle would be happy to make another bid for the player he tried to sign during the January transfer window. http://sport.scotsman.com/football/Burnley-renew-interest-in-unhappy.3976780.jp
