Rumour Mill-Riordan Again
Burnley are ready to launch a fresh bid for out-of-favour Celtic forward Derek Riordan, according to the Sun today.
Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is believed to be ready to release Riordan at the end of the season. The manager will not have been too pleased after being subject to a weekend outburst by the player. Riordan, now 25 has been frustrated for some time at Celtic and feels he has been given little chance to prove his worth. The Daily Record today reports that Derek Riordan faces showdown talks with Strachan today over an unpaid club fine and his comments to the media
The player has made just 13 starts and 19 substitute appearances for Celtic since signing from Hibs in June 2006.
The Clarets were rumoured to be interested in the player during the last January transfer window and at one point it was thought that Lafferty could be joining the Scottish club in a cash & player deal involving Riordan coming the other way.
If Owen Coyle resurrects his interest though he could face competition from local rivals, Preston.
Yesterday the Daily Record reported that Preston gaffer Alan Irvine could be ready to bid for the player also suggesting they might be putting together a package.
