Dave Beasant in Goal?

The Clarets trialled a new player in last night's reserve game against Carlisle at Accrington Stanley's ground.

This was not Sean Evans, the Manchester United striker widely rumoured in the press to be interesting the Clarets.

It was in fact a keeper called Beasant but thankfully a much younger version that his Uncle Dave.

James Beasant has recently been playing in the States following his release from Watford in the Summer of 2007. He has been looking to get back into the professional game after a spell at non-league club Chesham. He was also training at Millwall earlier in the year.

He once saved a penalty for Watford Reserves in his debut against Chelsea Reserves. So what you might ask? Well the penalty taker was Carlton Cole. Yeah I agree, so what!

In last night's trial, the first thing Beasant had to do was pick the ball out of the net after Carlisle scored on 18 minutes. However the scorer, winger McDermott was denied a second in the second half by a superb save from Beasant at point blank range.

He also later denied Paul Reid just inside the area by getting his feet to the ball.
