McCann No Go Montenegro

Clarets midfielder Chris McCann will have to wait for his first Republic of Ireland U21 cap. He had been named in the squad for the UEFA qualifier against Montenegro tomorrow but has withdrawn due to injury.

This is disappointing news and perhaps unexpected bearing in mind McCann played for the Clarets against Preston at Deepdale on Saturday after missing three games with a groin injury.

It was always touch and go whether he would be able to play but hopes were raised after he made it into the starting eleven for the Clarets just two days ago.

Fears must now be raised as to whether he has had a recurrence of the injury or picked up a new knock in the derby game.

Chris McCann is clearly preferred in midfield at the moment to Gudjonsson, Mahon and Randall. It will be interesting to see what our midfield line up will be like against Barnsley at Turf Moor this Saturday and whether McCann is fit enough to be selected.

Rather worrying, there was a moment in the Preston match when McCann seemed to be injured but he appeared to run it off
