Coyle Hone A Loan?

Coyle Hone A Loan?

Clarets gaffer, Owen Coyle does not appear to have ruled out the possibility of adding to his squad via the loan window as we enter the vital final stage of the season with the Clarets still only three points off a play-offs position with seven matches still to play.

In the Football League, loan deals are permitted over the period Friday, 8 February to Thursday, 27 March. We already have three loans in the team, Stan Varga, Andrew Cole and Mark Randall although all these players were actually signed in January 2008 before the loan window opened.

We have not signed anybody since the loan window opened and we now have just nine days left in which to add to the squad via this route.

"We've never ruled ourselves out of the loan market, we're speaking to clubs on a daily basis about one or two different positions, and that will continue, said Coyle

"There are a lot of factors involved, people think you can go and spend this and spend that, but it's not as easy.

"Sometimes players are outside our budget, and equally you might have something agreed and a player doesn't want to drop down a division, or whatever.

"But we are actively pursuing one or two lines of enquiry, looking to give the lads here a little boost, and if it's not to be, we have players capable of winning games in any case.

"There's always a chance something can happen, because things can move quickly on one phone call

"We're still trying to get one or two; I can't say for definite that's the case but we'll continue in that vein"

It has to be said that most(if not all) the other play-off contenders seem to have done rather better in the loan window than the Clarets and in recent times we do seem to have struggled in the injury and suspension department whilst still having one of the smallest squads in the League.

It is true that Michael Duff could be close to a return after his long-term cruciate injury and he has played a number of reserve games recently. Bes Berisha, who picked up a similar injury, could also make his debut for the Clarets before the season is out. Steve Jones is still understood to be sidelined with an injury though. Today we also hear that Stan Varga might need an injection for a foot injury and could miss the Preston derby.

Chris McCann could return though for the derby match this Saturday against Preston after picking up a thigh and groin problem in the Hull game and being sidelined for the last three games. Andrew Cole seems to have had a number of injuries recently with Achilles heel and calf problems. He did not make the sixteen in our last match against Wolves and has struggled with the calf injury in the previous two games. Coyle however has again said he could be fit for the derby match this Saturday.

At the moment, with Duff, Berisha and Jones still sidelined and with Jay Rodriguez on loan to Stirling Albion, we have a squad of 22 players and that includes the young, Adam Kay.

Maybe the club do need to look at some loan opportunities for the last seven remaining games to freshen up the side. It does appear that we are trying and haven`t given up hope but it does worry me that most of our rivals for a play offs place seem to be doing rather better in the loan window and in most cases already have bigger squads.

Seems to be the same old stance from Coyle, similar to the words he used during the Jan transfer window..phone call away etc, within budget etc. Action not words might be a better idea when you look at the loans the likes of Stoke and the others have brought in or been linked with

It would appear Steve Jones is playing in the reserves now and scored last night, so thats one more in the squad available
