Call-Up but McCann He Make it?

The good news for Chris McCann is that he has been called up for a Group 3 UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifier against Montenegro at the end of this month. The game will be played a week this Tuesday (25th March) at Terryland Park in Galway and will kick off at 7:30 p.m.

It is not the first time he has been called up of course and in the away fixture he was on the bench and watched Montengro defeat Republic of Ireland by one goal to nil in his first call-up back in November 2007.

Chris however is of course out injured at the moment with a thigh strain and it will be touch and go if he will be fit enough to play for his country on this timescale.

Good luck Chris, lets hope you can recover in time and get your first cap. If Chris doesnt make it this time, at least he might have two more opportunities in this competition with the Republic of Ireland still to play Bulgaria and Portugal away on the 5th and 9th September this year.

The Irish National U21 team are not doing too well in this competition though and have won only one of their five games so far in their home game against Bulgaria

Their four defeats include the two against England U21 who currently head the group. They are currently in fifth place with only Bulgaria below them on goal difference.

Latest update from Coyle: "Chris is progressing but he certainly won't be available (for tomorrow). He'll possibly join in training next week ahead of the Preston game but he won't be available for Wolves."

Sounds like there is a good possibility he will be available for Preston, so that cap might be on
