Refusing a Contract? Harley!

Refusing a Contract? Harley!

Clarets gaffer Owen Coyle has scoffed at rumours reported in the National Press that defender Jon Harley had turned down an offer of a new contract.

A number of Clarets fans websites also compounded the rumour.

The defender is one of seven players out of contract in the summer. The main one of course is Wade Eliott who is currently believed to be finalising a deal. The others are Brian Jensen, David Unsworth, Garreth O'Connor, James O'Connor and John Spicer.

The Sunday People in particular reported the news but it seems their source was wrong.

Jon Harley has had a bit of a comeback in recent times under Owen Coyle having fought to get back and retain the left back position ahead of out-of-favour left back Stephen Jordan. Harley seemed to be struggling under Steve Cotterill for a time, but has been quite impressive in the last few matches under Coyle. He can also play in left midfield, and has slotted into that position on occasion.

We shall now have to see how this story develops but the denial from Coyle will be good news for a number of Clarets fans who rate Harley quite highly.

I remember when everyone used to say he'd be a great player. Then he just turned in to a boring average one!

Chelsea reject! Fulham reject! Haha. In all seriousness a good player, useful at set pieces. Would be disappointed if you lost him I'll bet. Come to think of it we wouldn't mind a left back..

Wonder if Col U will move for Spicer? We were tracking him last season.

Spicer has had a better season although is still struggling to hold down a regular starting position in midfield. You might be in with a chance in the Summer, although I think he is a useful squad player to have and might become a more regular player given the opportunity. Guess it depends what happens to our other midfielders come the next transfer window and whether we have our eyes on anybody else.

More from Coyle according to Sky Sports: Coyle has dismissed the speculation saying the club have yet to offer the experienced defender a new deal. "It's an absolute non-story with Jon," Coyle said. "We've not sat down yet, so you can't turn down something that's not been offered to you."

Guess it all depends as well who stays up in this division and who gets promoted,if you get my drift Stevie. Hope Colchester stay up,fancy a trip to a new stadium next season assuming we dont have about 20 new ones to go to in top flight. How easy will it be to get to this Cuckoo (haha) Farm compared to Layer Rd?

Well its near the main road which bypasses Colchester so easier to get too. But We'll be in League 1 by the looks of things! :(
