Cole in Serious Bother

Andrew Cole was questioned by police after an alleged assault on his wife according to the Times today

The 36-year-old,was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning at his home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

He was released last night, pending further inquiries.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said:

'At 2.27am on Monday, February 25, police were called to a house in Alderley Edge following an allegation of assault by a man against a woman.

'A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and was taken to Middlewich custody suite.

'He was interviewed and released last night on police bail until a date in April pending further inquiries.'

This is all we need, Cole has been out of the side recently with an Achilles injury but there was some hope he might return tonight for our match against Coventry.

Owen Coyle could possibly now decide to sideline the striker tonight because of these personal problems whether he is fit to play or not. I hope not, we badly miss his experience and goal power.

Great, what excellent timing!! Just hope this doesnt affect the football side

Showed against us he's still got it, shame for your lot really, to lose a player of his experience through whatever means
Boxer
Not sure what a manager does in these situations, assuming he could play anyway with the Achilles problem, Would Coyle be tempted to sideline him anyway due to his personal circumstances? Could someone play football faced with a potential assault charge hanging over him? Guess it depends on the individual. Of course the media could have blown things out of proportion again, who knows
turfmanphil
I don't think he should play. Footballers don't have a divine right to selection, be it Andy Cole or not.
Matt_Us
Not sure its a question of divine right more our necessity at moment. If he can play football without this hanging over him and affecting his performance, then we need him in the team! Our fire power was woeful against Plymouth with just Laffs up front
turfmanphil
At this time they are only allegations! We need him to play, adding that bit of menace with Akinbiyi up front.
AccyClaret
Well you won and helped Coventry come back down to the relegation fight!
StevieG Col U
Quite correct, AccyClaret. He's not guilty yet, is he!
Matt_Us
Missed him last night, Akinbiyi did OK but Cole adds that extra something, struggling at the moment to see what benefit Lafferty adds to the team
turfmanphil
i think a response from other players will make him ashamed enough dont you
mick66owl
Well he played against Watford this Saturday, although didnt seem on top form! Still it answers one question!
