Wade's Contract-An Update

The club hopes to have agreed a new contract with winger Wade Elliott before too long and Burnley have been in negotiations with the 29-year-old for the last few weeks trying to agree a deal.

Elliott signed a three-year deal following a free transfer from Bournemouth in the summer of 2005.

Owen Coyle is today quoted as saying the following

'We made a good offer to Wade, and the difficulty was Wade's representative was away in Thailand with the cricket.

'He's back now and we had good dialogue with him on Wednesday again, and we'll continue in that vein'

Elliott could well be Player of the Year again this season having put in some impressive performances for the Clarets winning a number of fans Man of the Match Awards.

His success has not gone unnoticed with a number of clubs including West Brom and Norwich according to the News of the World,reported to be interested in securing his services in the Summer.

It is vital therefore that the Clarets sort out this contract as soon as possible, so we can forget about it & focus on reaching the play-offs without any distractions or worries about losing a key player.

When I've seen him he always looks like he is a tricky player to be up against.

He used to be quite weak at first, kept taking the ball to the line, not wanting to beat a man. Last two seasons though, especially this one he has been awesome and run defences ragged with his mazzy runs.

Alexander on Wade: "I think everyone in the changing room would love to see him sign again and I'm sure the club are trying their hardest to keep him here.His form over the last three or four months has been magnificent.It's a pleasure to play behind Wade I've played against him in my time at Preston, but I never realised how good a player he was until I played behind him. He can really turn it on at times. "My job description is to defend as well as I can, and try to get the ball to him as much as I can because I know he is going to produce the crosses. "I think it works well, but there are a lot of good partnerships throughout the team. "Whether he is playing to earn a new contract only he knows. That's something that's personal to a player. "But the thing I find with players is that whatever motivates you, it motivates you. As long as you are motivated, that's the main thing. "When a player's not motivated, that's when it becomes a problem."
